Doors, Frames & Hardware Installation
TRIMWORKS installs and replaces residential and commercial doors, frames and hardware as complete openings, with attention to fit, operation, security, alignment and finished appearance.
The Complete Opening
The Opening Has to Work as a System.
A door is only as good as the opening around it. Frame condition, wall alignment, clearances, hardware, thresholds, trim and surrounding finishes all affect how the completed opening looks and performs.
Our team evaluates the full condition so repairs and replacements address the opening—not just the most visible component.
TRIMWORKS approaches the opening as a whole so installation decisions are made around the actual use of the door—not just the product being replaced.
Doors, Frames & Hardware
Every Component Has a Job.
Door Leaf
Hollow metal, wood and other commercial door types selected for traffic, durability, environment and opening requirements.
Frame
Hollow metal or other frame systems fitted to the wall construction and prepared for hinges, strikes and other hardware.
Hinges & Pivots
The support and movement points that control alignment, swing and long-term operation under repeated use.
Locks & Latches
Cylindrical or mortise hardware, strikes and related components coordinated to the opening’s security and operational needs.
Closers
Hardware that controls closing speed and helps the door return to the latched position without slamming or staying open.
Exit Devices
Panic and exit hardware used where egress requirements call for fast, intuitive release from the occupied side.
Commercial Door Installation
Built for Repeated Use, Security & Reliable Operation.
The current Southeast Michigan market is heavily centered on hollow metal doors and frames, commercial wood doors, panic hardware, closers, retrofit installation and accessibility. Those are the same practical concerns that drive most commercial opening projects.
Durable openings for high-traffic commercial, industrial and multifamily environments.
Interior openings where appearance and durability both matter.
Replacement work where the existing wall, frame or hardware preparation has to be evaluated first.
Closers, hinges, locksets, exit devices and related hardware installed around actual building use.
Existing Openings
Replacement Work Starts With What Is Already There.
In renovation work, the opening may already have decades of movement, repairs and hardware changes behind it. Before deciding whether to replace the door, frame or both, the existing conditions need to be understood.
Is the existing frame square, secure and still suitable for the new door?
Does the new hardware require reinforcing or preparation that the existing leaf does not have?
Are clearances and alignment problems coming from the door, frame or surrounding wall?
Will the replacement opening need to coordinate with flooring, thresholds or adjacent finishes?
Accessible Openings
Hardware, Clear Width & Closing Behavior All Matter.
The 2010 ADA Standards include technical requirements for accessible doors and doorways, including clear opening width, hardware operation, closing speed and opening force for many manual doors.
For example, accessible door openings generally require a minimum 32-inch clear width, and operable hardware must be usable without tight grasping, pinching or twisting of the wrist. Applicable requirements depend on the building, opening and project scope.
2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design →Hardware Selection
The Right Hardware Depends on What the Door Needs to Do.
A front entrance, stockroom door, multifamily corridor opening and back-of-house service door do not necessarily need the same hardware. Traffic, security, accessibility and egress all influence the opening.
Control the closing cycle and help the door return to the latched position.
Supports rapid egress where an exit device is required by the applicable occupancy and code conditions.
Provide daily access and security functions based on how the room or building is used.
Carry the door and affect alignment, swing and long-term wear.
Help manage transitions, drafts, weather exposure and the interface with finished flooring.
Some openings may need preparation for electric strikes, magnetic locks or access-control components.
Rated Openings
Fire-Rated Doors Are Part of a Tested Assembly.
Where an opening is part of a fire-rated wall or barrier, the door, frame, glazing and hardware can all be part of the rated assembly. Those openings should not be treated like ordinary replacement doors.

Fit, Swing & Trim Still Determine the Finished Result.
Residential door installation has different priorities than a high-traffic commercial opening, but the fundamentals still matter: the frame has to be set correctly, the door has to swing cleanly and the casing and surrounding finish work have to tie into the room.
Doors were one of TRIMWORKS’ original specialties, which makes them a natural connection between our finish-carpentry background and the larger renovation work we perform today.

Common Questions
What types of commercial doors does TRIMWORKS install?
Depending on the project, TRIMWORKS installs commercial hollow metal doors and frames, wood doors and related architectural hardware as part of renovation, replacement and construction scopes.
Can you replace a commercial door without replacing the frame?
Sometimes. If the existing frame is secure, properly aligned and compatible with the replacement door and hardware, the leaf may be replaceable by itself. The opening needs to be evaluated before that decision is made.
Do you install panic bars and door closers?
Yes, depending on project scope. TRIMWORKS installs and coordinates commercial door hardware including closers, hinges, locksets and exit devices.
What makes a door ADA accessible?
Accessible openings can involve clear width, maneuvering clearance, threshold height, hardware operation, closing speed and opening-force requirements. The applicable requirements depend on the facility and opening.
Do you work on fire-rated doors?
TRIMWORKS works around fire-rated construction, but rated door assemblies must be treated according to the requirements of the tested assembly and applicable project documents rather than as ordinary door replacements.
Do you install residential doors too?
Yes. TRIMWORKS also handles residential door installation and related finish work, particularly as part of larger interior renovation and carpentry scopes.
