Flooring Installation & Replacement
TRIMWORKS installs and replaces finish flooring for commercial, multifamily and residential renovations, property improvements and repair projects, with attention to substrate condition, transitions and how the space is used.
Before the New Flooring Goes Down
Good Flooring Starts Under the Finish.
A successful flooring installation depends on more than the material selected. Existing floor conditions, substrate flatness, moisture concerns, transitions, adjacent finishes and traffic all affect the completed result.
Our team reviews the conditions that can be seen before installation and coordinates preparation, installation and finish details as part of the broader project scope.

Four Conditions We Want to Understand Before Installation.
Flatness & Surface Condition
High spots, low areas, cracks, damaged underlayment or old patching can telegraph through certain flooring products or create movement after installation.
Moisture
Moisture conditions can affect adhesives, wood products and resilient flooring systems. Testing requirements depend on the substrate and selected product.
Existing Adhesive & Residue
Old flooring removal may leave behind adhesive, thinset or other material that has to be addressed before a new finish can be installed correctly.
Transitions & Elevations
New flooring has to meet doorways, adjacent rooms, stairs and other materials without creating awkward height changes or unfinished edges.
Material Selection
Choose Flooring for the Space — Not Just the Sample.
Traffic, cleaning, moisture exposure, acoustics, replacement strategy and visual goals can all influence which flooring makes sense for a particular property.
Commercial interiors, multifamily, residential renovations
Substrate flatness, adhesive system, transitions and replacement strategy
Offices, common areas and other commercial spaces
Pattern layout, modular replacement, traffic and underfloor access
Healthcare, utility, institutional and specialized commercial environments
Seams, substrate preparation, moisture and manufacturer requirements
Residential and selected commercial environments
Jobsite moisture, acclimation, subfloor and seasonal movement
Entries, kitchens, restrooms and high-wear areas
Substrate, movement, layout, transitions and grout/finish requirements
Commercial Flooring Installation
The Floor Has to Handle Traffic — and the Installation Has to Respect Operations.
Commercial flooring projects add another layer to material selection: how the building is used while work is happening. Offices, retail, healthcare, hospitality and managed properties may need phased work, off-hours installation or careful access planning.
That operating concern is common in the local commercial flooring market. Metro Detroit installers frequently emphasize nights, weekends and phased work specifically to reduce disruption to businesses and occupied properties.
Floor Removal & Replacement
Sometimes the Most Important Work Happens Before the New Material Arrives.
Existing flooring removal can reveal conditions that were impossible to confirm beforehand: residual adhesive, uneven concrete, damaged underlayment, previous patching or moisture-related concerns. Those discoveries can change the prep scope.
Local commercial installers commonly describe grinding, resurfacing, adhesive removal and substrate prep as part of the flooring process—not optional cleanup after demolition.
Residential Flooring Installation
A New Floor Changes How the Whole Interior Connects.
Residential flooring is rarely isolated from the rest of the room. Base, door casing, thresholds, cabinetry, stairs and adjoining spaces all affect the finished result.
TRIMWORKS began with doors, floors and mouldings before expanding into broader construction, so flooring remains closely connected to the finish-carpentry and renovation work we perform.
Residential Construction →The Finish Details
A Floor Is Not Finished Until the Edges Are Resolved.
Transitions, base, thresholds and adjacent finishes are what make the installation feel integrated with the rest of the building.
Floor height and trim details need to work with doors, frames and thresholds.
Carpet, tile, LVT and wood may meet at different elevations and need clean transition details.
Floor replacement can affect existing base, shoe moulding and finish carpentry.
Nosing, exposed edges and changes in level require deliberate finish details.

Flooring Installation FAQs
Questions Before Installation
What types of flooring does TRIMWORKS install?
Depending on the project, TRIMWORKS installs finish flooring including resilient flooring, LVT/LVP, carpet tile, wood and tile as part of commercial, multifamily and residential construction scopes.
Why does subfloor preparation matter?
Flooring products rely on the substrate beneath them. Flatness, strength, moisture, old adhesive and surface condition can all affect adhesion, movement and final appearance.
Can you remove existing flooring before installation?
Yes, depending on scope. Removal may also expose conditions that require additional preparation before the replacement flooring can be installed.
Do you provide commercial flooring installation?
Yes. TRIMWORKS provides flooring installation as part of commercial renovations, property improvements, tenant work and other construction scopes.
Can flooring be installed in an occupied business?
Often, yes, depending on project conditions. Commercial flooring may be phased or scheduled around business operations, access requirements and adhesive or cure-time needs.
How do you choose the right flooring material?
The right material depends on traffic, moisture, cleaning requirements, appearance, maintenance, replacement strategy and the substrate at the property. Product-specific manufacturer requirements also need to be followed.
